Vintage 1955 Shure Controlled Reluctance
99H86 526 element
Fully Tested and Working
This is a very nice original Shure 440 that’s been powder-coated, newly rewired, with a new Switchcraft cable connector, premium volume control knob, new element gasket, and a really great-sounding Controlled-reluctance element from 1955. The tag is from a Shure CR41, and is not original to this shell. I’ve also added a dual windscreen behind the grill featuring marine-grade stainless steel mesh and white nylon cloth.
Tone-wise, this mic has great bottom and excellent crunchy mids and highs. Better than any of the new harp mics available today.
This CR element has the sought-after metallic bobbin cap that gives the sound a bit more crunch than later glue-only models
The mic features:
– Strong 1955 Shure 99H86 526 element
– Integrated Volume Control
– Switchcraft 5/8” screw-on connector
– 1136 Ohms, Strong element
– Custom stainless steel mesh
– Powder coat with gloss topcoat
Excellent cosmetic condition, but a few nicks and scuffs on the grill, and the tone is gritty and awesome.
