This is something special. The shell is an April of 1940 Astatic Model 30. The stock crystal with the date stamp was toast. So I replaced it with it’s cousin. This element is a 1950 Shure controlled reluctance black label.
Yes, these parts have been fully used in their lifetime, but they’re still kicking. The grill is in good condition, but the paint of the shell is scratched and scuffed. A lot. Call it Mojo?
This element is very, very strong, with a nice crunchy distortion throughout the highs and fat, fat, booming lows. Really exceptional. Uncupped this element is crisp and clear. This is one of the most tone-filled mics I’ve rebuilt.
The mic features:
– Strong 1950 Shure 99A86 element
– Switchcraft screw-on cable connector
– All new wiring
– New jlspoor.com custom gasket
– 1354 Ohms, Very Hot
– All original finish
Weathered cosmetic condition, amazing tone.
